Lubricant formulations for spark ignition direct injection (SIDI) engines

  • OEMs are producing vehicles with SIDI engines that achieve improved fuel economy -- an important area in the automotive industry -- when compared with Port Fuel Injection gasoline engines.
  • OEMs are concerned that 'soot like' particles that may be produced by combustion methodology of SIDI engines may cause soot-induced, abrasive wear.
  • After investigating the structure of these 'soot like' particles, Infineum conducted a field trial to evaluate the performance of low SAE viscosity grade, reduced-SAPS oils in SIDI engines. Results will be presented.
