David Atkinson has been in the waste industry for approximately 12 years. Whilst working for another company he identified a niche for the supply of scrap truck tyres into Holland and the recycling of earthmover tyres from mainland Europe.
In September 1998 he founded ENVIROTYRE Ltd, a company specialising in the recycling of tyres that filled the gap as outlined above. The company was sold in February 2005
In November 2003 PLASREC Ltd was founded with a view to recycling plastics. Whilst looking at various options he found the company was veering more towards the recycling of electronics. The sale of Envirotyre enabled David to concentrate on the expansion of Plasrec and to seize the opportunities that were presented via the contacts made in Western Europe.
David was raised in North Shields and spent 20 years serving in the Armed forces and then the Police. Unfortunately he was forced to retire from the Police service after sustaining an injury on duty. He is 55 years of age and has been married for 5 years to Jeanne. His hobbies include travel and almost anything to do with boats and the sea.
