Dr Crichton graduated in 1975 with Honours in Chemistry from Heriot-Watt University, and continued his studies with research on Nitrogen Fixation at the University of Sussex, gaining a Ph.D in 1978. This was followed by a fellowship at the University of Leeds before he joined Shell Research in 1979 at their Thornton Research Centre near Chester in the UK.After four years research and development work on lubricants and then alternative fuels, Dr Crichton became Development Manager for Shell Brasil in Rio de Janeiro. This was followed by a posting in London in 1985 with Shell Additives with whom he worked in various Marketing and Technical posts in London and at Thornton Research Centre, culminating in 1998 as Product Development and Technical Support Manager, responsible for all Shell additives lubricant products worldwide.At the formation of Infineum in 1999, Dr Crichton joined them at their Milton Hill headquarters as Manager, Crankcase Marketing Technical Services - East, transferring to his current position late in October 2001.
